A Tale of Courage and Resistance
Devi Chowdhurani is not just a tale rooted in Bengal; it resonates throughout India, embodying themes of bravery, dignity, and defiance.
Prosenjit Chatterjee takes center stage in this rebel narrative as Bhavani Pathak, delivering a heartfelt homage to Srabanti Chatterjee’s portrayal of Devi, which has already resonated with audiences.
In a significant achievement for Indian cinema, Devi Chowdhurani has become the first film from India to receive official Indo-UK co-production status, as announced by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting during Waves 2025. The film's teaser was launched digitally, reaching viewers worldwide.
The teaser provides an exciting first look at the legendary rebel heroine created by Bankim Chandra Chattopadhyay. Srabanti takes on the lead role of Devi, while Prosenjit portrays the mysterious rebel leader Bhavani Pathak. A particular line has struck a chord with viewers: “Among metals, you are the meteor.”
This ambitious project is directed by National Award-winning filmmaker Subhrajit Mitra. The cast features notable actors such as Sabyasachi Chakraborty, Arjun Chakraborty, Darshana Banik, Bibriti Chatterjee, and Kinjal Nanda, with music by Grammy-nominated artist Pandit Bickram Ghosh.
Reflecting on this milestone, Prosenjit Chatterjee expressed, “It fills me with pride to see a Bengali narrative, deeply rooted in our culture and history, showcased on the grandest stage of all.”
